Email contact@bitfuzed.com. It helps to include your phone model, the Fenwrite version (Settings, at the bottom) and what happened. Please don't send recordings or transcripts unless we ask; we never need them to fix a billing problem.

Getting started

Apple Watch

Open Fenwrite on the watch and tap Record, or add the Record with Fen complication to a watch face. When you stop, the recording goes to your iPhone, which writes the transcript and summary. If the iPhone isn't nearby, the watch keeps the recording until it is. More in recording on Apple Watch.

Fenwrite Pro

Fenwrite Pro is $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year in the US (your store shows your local price). It gives 20 hours of recording a month and up to 3 hours a recording, on iPhone, Apple Watch and Android. Your hours refill at the start of each month of your subscription; unused time doesn't carry over. There's no weekly plan. Buy it in the app from Settings, Go Pro.

Restore purchases: Settings, Restore purchases (also on the Pro screen). Sign in to back up your notes and Pro comes along to your other phones too.

Cancel a subscription

Subscriptions are billed and cancelled through the store you bought from. Deleting the app, or your Fenwrite account, doesn't cancel it. If you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you've paid for.

iPhone (App Store)

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Fenwrite, then Cancel Subscription.

Or, in Fenwrite, open Settings and tap Manage in the App Store. Apple handles refunds: see Apple's request a refund page.

Android (Google Play)

  1. Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Fenwrite, then Cancel subscription.

Or, in Fenwrite, open Settings and tap Manage in Google Play. Google handles refunds under its own policies.

Backup and your account

Signing in is optional. In Settings, Back up your notes offers Continue with Apple (on iPhone), Continue with Google, or email. While you're signed in, the words (titles, transcripts, summaries, to-dos and speaker names) are backed up so they come back on a new phone. Audio is never backed up; it stays on the phone that recorded it.

Delete your account: Settings, Account, Delete account. It deletes your account, your backup and the recordings on that phone. Full details, and what to do if you can't open the app, are on Delete your account.

Privacy settings

The privacy policy explains what goes where: audio to AssemblyAI to be transcribed, the transcript's text to OpenAI for the summary, and nothing sold.

Questions

Fen isn't writing anything down. What's wrong?

Check that Fenwrite has microphone access (in your phone's Settings, under Fenwrite) and that you're online: the live transcript needs a connection. If you're offline, Fen keeps recording and writes it up when you're back online.

Why did my recording stop by itself?

It reached the longest one recording can be on your plan (10 minutes on the free hour, 3 hours on Pro), or the time left in your allowance. Fen warns you a minute before and saves what he has.

I bought Fenwrite Pro, but the app still says Free.

Open Settings and tap Restore purchases (it's on the Pro screen too). Make sure the phone is signed in to the same Apple Account or Google account you bought with. If that doesn't fix it, email us.

My Apple Watch recording hasn't appeared on my iPhone.

Keep the iPhone nearby and open Fenwrite on it. The watch keeps each recording until the iPhone has it, and shows how many are waiting. Once it arrives, the iPhone needs the internet to write it up.

Can I import an audio file?

Not yet. Fenwrite writes up what it records, on the phone or Apple Watch.

Can I export a transcript?

Yes. Open a recording and use Copy or Share: you get the summary and the transcript as plain text, with speaker names and timestamps.

How do I move to a new phone?

Sign in on the old phone (Settings, Back up your notes) so your transcripts and summaries are backed up, then sign in with the same account on the new phone. Audio is never backed up, so it stays on the old phone. Pro follows you: restore purchases on the new phone, or sign in.

Is Fenwrite HIPAA-compliant?

No. Fenwrite is a personal note taker. It isn't designed for clinicians keeping patient records, and we don't sign business associate agreements. Patients recording their own appointments: see our guide.

Which phones does Fenwrite run on?

iPhone, Apple Watch and Android phones. The App Store and Google Play listings show the current system requirements. There's no iPad, Mac or web app.

Can I turn off analytics?

Yes. In Settings, under Privacy, "Share usage & crash reports" controls Firebase usage and crash reports (never what was said), and "Share installs with Meta" controls the app opens and purchases that measure our own Facebook and Instagram ads. There are no ads in Fenwrite.
