Fenwrite vs Granola: phone-first or calendar-first?

Updated October 2026 ·

Pick Granola if most of your meetings are video calls on a computer and you live in your calendar: it takes notes from your computer's audio without a bot, enhances the notes you jot, and has a free plan. Pick Fenwrite if most of your conversations happen in a room and you want to press record on your phone with no account, no calendar and no laptop: a live transcript with each voice labelled, names suggested, and a summary with the to-dos. Both now have iPhone, Android and Apple Watch apps. We make Fenwrite.

Where Granola is better

  • Video calls without a bot. On Mac and Windows, it takes notes from your computer's audio. Fenwrite doesn't do calls.
  • Your calendar. It pulls in your meetings from your calendar and preps notes around them.
  • Notes you shape. You jot what matters and it fills in the detail from the transcript, if you'd rather shape your own notes than read a full transcript.
  • Across devices and teams. Notes sync between desktop and mobile, and the Business plan is built for teams.
  • A free plan you can use day to day, if 30 days of history is enough.
  • Phone calls on iPhone.

Where Fenwrite is better

  • No account, no calendar. Install, press record. Nothing to connect, nothing to sign up for.
  • Phone-only. Recording, reading, searching and sharing all happen on the phone; Granola makes calendar changes on desktop.
  • Who said what, by name. A live transcript with each voice labelled, and names suggested from what people say.
  • Audio stays on your phone and is never backed up; the optional backup is text only.
  • A personal price. $9.99 a month for one person, against $14 per user for Granola Business.

The real difference: where your meetings happen

Granola started on the desktop, for people whose day is a calendar full of video calls. Its phone apps, Android since July 2026 and Apple Watch since late July, extend that to in-person meetings, synced with the same account and calendar. If that describes your week, it's a strong choice and probably the better one.

Fenwrite started on the phone, for conversations around a table: team meetings, classes, interviews, appointments, site visits. It doesn't know about your calendar and doesn't need to. You press record, and the transcript writes itself with each voice labelled; when you stop, you get the gist, the decisions and the to-dos with who owns them.

Who should pick which

Choose Granola if you take most meetings on a computer, want your calendar in the loop, prefer enhancing your own notes, or need a free plan for regular use.

Choose Fenwrite if your important conversations happen in person, you want a full transcript of who said what, and you'd rather not create an account or connect a calendar. Fenwrite is coming soon to the App Store (iPhone and Apple Watch) and Google Play (Android).
